Final Piece

For this piece I chose to do a slightly abstract piece especially if you didn't have the explanation behind it. I went ahead with the body sculpture on canvas at a larger scale this time. I acted as though I was Diana and used Connor to act as Actaeon. I think it suited the story very well, as in the story it was Diana who could and did puppet out Acteaons life.
The whole thing was a complete role reversal from Yves Kleins work. Instead of being the man who controls the women it was the woman controlling the men. I think it fits perfectly with the time and change over the years. As people question if Klein was a sexist man and now I'm giving a prime example of how the times have changed and a woman can be in control of the man. The empowerment of women.

The piece is unfinished as of yet but with help from Jon ive a few more ideas of how to finish; a sensory drawing over the final image? blind fold Connor and command him to draw directly where I say while he can't see. This links because it's all down to interpretation and how you interpret change, just like how you interpret metamorphosis. For example, how you don't know Diana's true intentions, did she change Acteaon knowing his fate? And why did she do it? It's all down to interpretation.

Finally although the piece is on canvas and not what everyone would call a sculpture this takes me back to an earlier post on what is really a sculpture? Back to the paper that was folded so it stood up on its own, is that 2D or 3D? So with my canvas I could add wire or build off it to create a 3D object OR I could hang the canvas. I was thinking to hang the canvas from the ceiling with its surroundings draped so it becomes the main focus.

If you follow this link it should take you to some videos of the process of the final piece.

The final picture is the after math of scrubbing paint of my lovely assistance, I think it also links to the metamorphosis poem as Diana's actions have consequences. You can see his skin is fairly raw because as the paint dried he had to scrub harder to take the paint off.
