Chris Ofili is an english painter. The year is 1922, being awarded a travelling scholarship to Zimbabwe, an experience that truly defined his approach and style in painting. All his work is vibrant and complex. It consisted of layers upon layers of paint, glitter, resin and collage. And what he is most commonly known for is the use of elephant dung in his work. Most of his works took on the concern of black identity where he often employed racial stereotypes of black sexual potency. I think due to the stereotypes he was referring to, sort of dragging the black identity 'through the mud' thats where the elephant dung fit perfectly.
The bright colours and the style made me think of print work which is why I thought his work could inspire me with mine.

Afronirvana, 2002
This is my favourite because of the strong line work throughout the piece and the leaf work linked with what I was wanting to produce with my print work. |

The vibrant colours and the line work again spoke to me for my print work. This piece is very abstract as well which is something that I've looked at for this piece. |
