typographic design

Typography is the art and technique of arranging text to make written language legible and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of the text is the whole reason behind typography, the typeface, point size, line length everything is taken into account to make the whole image more aesthetically pleasing. It is a way to communicate important information and keep it stuck in your mind by the way it is displayed. Sometimes typography is used for unimportant information just for aesthetic reasons but that there is still a large thought process into how it is laid out.
As you'll see from the images below text doesn't just need to be written simply in front of you, in the shape of the matter at hand is often a good starting point and forming your words into that object is a clever and fairly simple way to get the message across.
With typography its not just the words themselves its everything else about the image, the swirls around the words, the lines, the colours everything is taken into account to develop and create the final image.
