Focal points

A focal point focuses specifically on the point of interest which makes a canvas unique. Knowing how to create a strong focal point is a skill every artist should understand and have the ability to produce. The focal point should automatically demand the viewers attention. Weather the placement of the focal point is used correctly can effect the overall composition of the artwork.
A focal point can also be extremely simple, take these photos as an example.

The use of a red contrasting against the other bland colours makes it stand out even more. Becoming the focal point. The image can become a focal point for a number of reasons, contrast, isolation, placement, convergence and the unusual. Contrast is difference, because the focal point is different to the others e.g. the square being different to the circles, it stands out. What makes it stand out even more is the contrast in colour. You will notice the placement of each of these examples is almost central which also helps it become a natural focal point, as this is where you look at an image first off.
