Experimenting with plaster cast over sand and string built up. I made a lump of sand that would hold the string in position. I created a very simple butterfly with just bundled up string and pushed that into the sand. I poured the plaster over the top and once it has set it had been pressed into the plaster and was still attached. It was just experimentation as I was hoping that the sand would help the string lift off from the plaster and just leave the shape behind. Evidently that was not the case. Also the plaster seeped through the string as I didn't pad it enough which left with weird dripped plaster marks. An unsuccessful experiment but I learnt not to do it in the future.
Health and safety: Don't leave any body parts in the plaster while it sets as it gets very hot. When you are mixing your plaster be mindful of the dust coming off, use the extractor fan. Wear gloves!
